Clothing is one of the most important part of the human lives as well as a necessity of protecting oneself from a lot of things. It could be bad weather or other safety reasons. All clothing has a significant cultural and social value attached to it.
There is an extreme inventiveness that has developed in the field of clothing. What earlier was just a necessity has now become a thing of fashion. There are designers for clothes that cater to the likes and dislikes of the people with regard to clothing.
Clothing also sends across a certain social message for instance in the olden days in the west if someone from the family were expired women had to wear black for one year to show that they were in mourning. Similarly in India widowed women had to wear white or very neutral color clothing and could not wear anything bright.
Similarly ethnic clothing is something that is specific to a culture and holds special significance for the people of the culture. Off late ethnic clothing has become one of a category in fashion design which has a lot of fusion. For instance Indian ethnic wear for women includes the sari, the salwar kameez and the ghagra and many such things each belonging to a particular state.
For the men ethnic clothing includes the dhoti kurta, the kurta pajama, and accessories like a cap etc. The fashion designers induce a lot of style in this clothing by mixing and matching the colors, making the kameez sometime short long or asymmetrical. The salwars are embroidered or plain straight or churidar etc. Ethnic clothing has taken on a whole new meaning ever since fashion designing came into being.
Ethnic also has to do with showing your religious intent to the world. For instance the Jews no matter how rich sport a special cap and so do the Muslims though not all of them. The Sikhs wear the turban in order to show that they adhere to Sikhism and so on and so forth. |
