Knitting is a way of turning thread or yarn into cloth. The knitted garment is different from the woven garment. This is because it consists of entirely parallel horizontal courses of yarn. The courses are joined by each other through interlocking loops. The short loop of the yarn is wrapped on the bight of another course.
Knitted garments are prepared both by hand by machines. Garments can be knitted in the circular or back and forth fashion. The knitted garment can include a number of patterns and a number of colors. The various patterns can be made in the knitted garments thorough the use of knit and purl stitches.
Once the knitting of the garment is complete the remaining live stitches are cast off or bound without unraveling the item that has been prepared. The knitted garments are usually prepared in pieces and are then sewed together. There is a process called seamless knitting wherein there are no seams in the garment. This is done through circular knitting machines.
The knitted garments have a huge array. There are pullovers, scarves, mufflers, slacks, caps, socks, mittens, so on and so forth. All the garments that are knitted of wool are prevalent mostly in the cold countries and have usually a history behind them. There are also jackets etc with hoods so as to keep the head warm too. Pockets are provided to keep the hands warm and so are the gloves which prevent the hands from freezing in severely cold countries. |
