Hosiery Products

Hosiery products are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. For instance thigh high stockings, body stockings, anklets, knee socks, tights etc. The history of hosiery goes back to 500 A.D. socks were made at that time to provide warmth and comfort to the feet. A pair of silk stockings was presented to Elizabeth in the 16 th century. This made the production of hosiery start at a large scale.

When the British people moved out to America they took the knitting machines with them as far as that was possible. A hope of starting a new trade of producing hosiery on America was the driving force in spite of the strict laws against their smuggling.

The first steam powered hosiery was invented by people in the 19 th century. The introduction of cotton in the production of hosiery led to wool vanishing from the industry. With the development of nylon in the 20 th century the hosiery manufacturers jumped to make hosiery with it and later switched to spandex.

Body stockings that are a form of hosiery that are really popular and are excellent to keep the body warm as they have a tank top to cover the top body with the legs being covered by the stockings. The leg stockings hide the not so attractive portions of the body from view.

However the material that is used to make tights is denser than that which is used to make stockings etc.
