A lockstitch sewing machine is one of the various garment machinery and binds the cloth together with two spools of thread and a needle that is at its base. The seams of a lockstitch sewing machine are straight and strong as compared to a chain stitch machine. This was the first kind of sewing machine to get a patent and give the people automatic sewing machines.
The majority of homes prefer to have a lockstitch sewing machine as this kind of stitch can be used in a variety of applications. The length of the stitch and its taught ness can be controlled with the help of a dial. The first spool of thread is on top of the machine and it runs through a tension arm that feeds the machine comfortably.
The second thread is hidden beneath in the foot. This thread is pulled on a shuttle and is looped around on the thread from above. It took a long time for engineers to perfect the stitch of the lockstitch machine. The basic idea of the lockstitch machine of looping one thread on the other was conceived by Elias Howe in 1846. He also got a patent but never marketed it. Isaac Singer improved upon Howe’s design in the 1850s and built a machine.
The modern lockstitch machine has more convenience, flexibility, and has electrified foot pedals to power the stitching with a motor. There are also a variety of attachments that come along with them to be able to perform a variety of functions like hemming and quilting. |
