When models are hired for catwalking, for specific shows for an agreed sum of money, also the rights to use the photographs and the video of the show are only for reporting until otherwise specified at the time of booking. Such a show is known as a fashion show.
A few important fashion capitals of the world are Paris, Milan, New York etc. Most of the important fashion shows happen in these places and to get a place in these shows is the ultimate dream of all designers. India’s designer Ritu Beri had got the wonderful opportunity of show casing her collection at the Paris Fashion Week.
Fashion Shows in these towns such as New York, Paris, and Milan are the hot beds where celebrities are seen to be rubbing shoulders with each other. Designers invite popular faces to increase the USP of their shows and these people get to sit in the front rows at the show.
India has its own fashion week known as the Lakme Fashion Week; this is joint venture between, Lakme, the cosmetic giant and the fashion industry. This event is as coveted and sought after as the Paris or Milan shows. Foreign buyers visit these shows and many of the collections of Indian designers have been selected for retailing giants like Harrods in the UK and Burberry etc.
The conception and presentation of the Lakme fashion week has out India on the global fashion market and bought accolade from the world fashion fraternity. The show is organized twice a year, the Fall Show in the last week of March and the Spring/ Summer week in September/ October.
These shows not only showcase the collections of well known and established designers but also have a special section for the new and up coming promising designers. The show is a good exposure for both the category of designers and at times the new comers also land up with important foreign contracts.
Not just the designers but the models too benefit fro m such a kind of set up. This is because they become better groomed since the standards of these shows are very high. Models form India land up with exciting modeling offers for the foreign ramps and become highly sought after for instance India’s Ujjawala Raut.
