Introduction
A bangle is a single ring worn slightly loose on your wrists. In other words, a bangle is a ring-shaped bracelet. Bangles typically do not have openings, so they are put on by slipping them onto the wrist over a compressed hand. The width of the bangle is slightly more than the size of the compressed hand and less than the size of the hand in normal position. As the size of the hand in normal position is more than the width of the bangle, it prevents the bangle from falling off.
Bangles in History
Bangles are one of the oldest jewelry items. In ancient times, some cultures had women wear a lot of jewelry- typically bangles and necklaces- made of precious metals. The amount of jewelry the women wore used to reflect the wealth and social status of their families.
Bangle Types
Bangles can be made of a variety of material ranging from precious metals to wood, plastic or glass. Bangles can be worn as singles or in clattering groups. When you are wearing several bangles at one time, take care to combine them appropriately. A wooden bangle with primitive motifs can look great with ethnic or funky wear, but out of place with formal dresses.
Glass bangles, made of colored glass and often with embedded designs, are extremely feminine and beautiful. However they are easy to break and a little carelessness might result in you ending up with scratches and small cuts on your wrists. Lucite and acrylic are safer options.
Plain or carved, simple or bejeweled, costly or inexpensive, bangles are always in fashion. You can very well collect a range of bangles of different material, styles and colors without worrying about bangles going out of style.
