Introduction
A tiara is an item of hair jewelry, and is also known as a diadem. Tiaras are quite like crowns worn by royals. They are studded with precious gems, sparkling rhinestones, crystals or pearl and encircle the head fully or partially.
Tiaras over Time
Tiaras as jewelry items have been worn for many centuries now. Egyptians are believed to be the first people to create and wear tiaras. In Europe, Napoleon Bonaparte was very fond of tiaras and he made it a must wear accessory at social functions in the early 1800s. From then to the beginning of the World War I was a period of high popularity for tiaras.
Tiaras went out of popular fashion by the middle decades of the 20 th century. However they are still considered the ‘in’ thing in certain social situations like weddings.
The Design
Tiaras are commonly shaped out of metal wire- the metal used could be common ones like pot metal or precious metals. The wire is given artistic design and studded with gems, crystals or pearls. The wires are arranged in such a way that they display both the design and the gems in the best way possible. Tiaras are usually raised at the center and slimmer on the sides. Tiaras in our times are made of lighter material for ease of wearing, and are available in a wide range of prices.
Although tiaras are not part of everyday fashion, there are a number of occasions when women wear them. Weddings, balls, beauty pageants, proms etc are appropriate occasions for wearing tiaras. Brides often wear tiaras beneath the wedding veil, the thin veil showing off the tiara’s beauty to the best advantage.
Tiaras make extremely feminine and elegant accessories- they can make any young woman feel like a princess.
