Different Types of Display Cases

Introduction

Display cases enable collectibles to be viewed while at the same time protecting them from dust, sunlight and other harmful effects. Display cases are available in a range of material like wood, metal or plastic. They have glass or Plexiglas panels that offer a view of the item on display. Recent display cases have UV coating on the panels to protect the collectible from the harmful rays in sunlight.

The Range

Some display cases, usually called display cabinets, can hold many collectibles in a single compartment. Some models may have features like interior lights. Display cases can themselves be of the antique type. China cabinets, curio cabinets and book cases all can come in this category.

Hobby stores have special display cases for individual items like model cars or airplanes. Dome shaped display cases with wooden or plastic bases and glass or Plexiglas domes are also sold at these places. These are usually used for holding collectibles like dolls and figurines.

Custom Designed Cases

Custom made cases for special items are designed for the specific dimensions of the particular collectible in question. Smaller display cases that can hold one or two article are also available in the market.

Custom display cases can be used either to display a large collection of one particular kind of collectible or a few choice items. If you are going for a custom made display case, make sure to plan your measurements so as to leave sufficient space around the collectible pieces.

Display cases are a must have investment for any serious collector. Collectibles left in the open are vulnerable to damage from sunlight, dampness and other harmful elements. Dust is another element that is bound to set in if you leave your collectible unprotected. Display cases preserve your valuable collection for many years of viewing and displaying.
